Another Active Weather Week Ahead For Puget Sound: Forecast

SEATTLE — The marathon of moisture continues in Puget Sound this week, with rain in the forecast for at least the next seven days and another atmospheric river possible by late Thursday. Some good news first: Monday should offer some brief relief after a few morning showers clear, granting Western Washington precious hours of daylight before the early sunset.

National Weather Service forecasters said Monday could shape up November’s driest so far before another front moves through Tuesday bringing more rain, wind and mountain snow.

The Cascades already got a healthy dose of snow this weekend, with eight inches recorded at Stevens Pass by Sunday afternoon and four inches at Snoqualmie. Mount Rainier picked up a foot. Forecasters predicted another few inches were still to come, and a winter weather advisory was put in place for higher elevations until early Monday.

In the lowlands, rain is here to stay. The latest forecasts call for moderate to heavy showers with Tuesday’s system and more wintry weather in the mountains, with snow levels hovering between 3,000 and 4,000 feet. Both Stevens and Snoqualmie passes could pick up another foot of snow by Wednesday morning.

Tuesday will also see the return of gusty winds, forecast to peak around 40 mph in the Seattle area. A few more showers are in the cards Wednesday before things take an even wetter turn late in the week. Forecasters are also tracking the potential for another widespread rain event, and river levels rising by Friday.

“Models and ensembles coming into good agreement with another atmospheric river scenario developing over Western Washington Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, with the heaviest rain overnight Thursday,” NWS Seattle wrote Sunday.

More details on the timing and strength of the late-week system will be available as the forecast gets firmed up in the coming days

  • Wednesday: 51°/39° (Chance of showers)
