Men’s Basketball Wins Opener of Bulldog Classic

Bellevue College men’s basketball defeated Chemeketa (OR) last night in the opening round of the Bulldog Classic 86-72. Other teams entered in the tourney are Highline and Walla Walla.

In a continuation of a theme that has been consistent all year so far for the ‘dogs, the squad came out hot shooting 57% in another high-scoring output in the first half. Ben Oleson and Maui Sze each had 9 points as freshman Bishop Tosi snagged six rebounds in the half as BC jumped out to a commanding 45-25 first half lead heading into the locker room.

From there it was all Bellevue, even though Chemeketa was able to outscore the Bulldogs 47-41 in the second half. Even though Chemeketa shot a scorching 20-for-29 in the second half, good for 69%, Bellevue controlled the ball with 35 attempts from the field while outrebounding the visitors 17 to 11 to prevent Chemeketa’s hot shooting from initiating any sort of comeback. The defensive tenacity was evident as seven Bulldogs had multiple rebounds, led by the nine of Tosi. Oleson had eight while leading the pack on 6-for-9 shooting for 14 points.

Bellevue plays today in round two against Walla Walla who defeated Highline yesterday. Tipoff at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion is set for 4:00 p.m.
