Men’s Basketball Wins Season Opener

Bellevue College men’s basketball, fresh off a successful shortened spring season, defeated South Puget Sound tonight in their season opener 82-71 in Olympia. With several key players returning, the Bulldogs used their veteran presence in the starting lineup as Jett Briceno, Ben Oleson, Maui Sze, and Nate Johnson were all starters and were all major contributors in the 2021 turnaround spring season.

Bellevue was in control from the beginning as the squad went into the locker room with a 56-37 lead. BC dominated offensively with 22 boards in contrast to South’s 10. As a result, Bellevue was able to get off double the amount of shots as the Clippers as Bellevue was 20-39 in the first half and were led by Briceno’s 4-for-6 from three-point territory. Newcomer Jeremiah Hersrud came off the bench and was 3-for-3 including a pair of three-pointers.

In the second half, although South was able to flip the rebound advantage to their side (25-13), their offense could not capitalize as the ‘dogs held on with comfort. Terrell Peter led BC with 15 points and six rebounds while Olesen added 13 points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs play again tomorrow night at Tacoma with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m.
