WASHINGTON — Washingtonians across the state are getting ready to say goodbye and good riddance to 2021.

A surge in cases spurred by the fast-spreading omicron variant may cause some to rethink their New Year’s plans, but others still may choose to say goodbye to 2021 and ring in what they hope will be a better year to come.

While New Year’s Day typically doesn’t carry the culinary fanfare boasted by Thanksgiving and Christmas, it’s a perfect excuse to host a festive brunch with your vaccinated friends or throw together a tasty New Year’s Day lunch for your family.

If you forgot the key ingredient for your famous quiche, need extra orange juice for mimosas, or for some reason have decided that you need a giant jar of pickles to ring in the new year, most grocery stores in Washington will be open for the food, drinks or pickles you may have forgotten.

As always, it’s best to call ahead to check your local store’s hours before heading out.

Rite Aid: Most stores will be open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
