Bellevue High’s football squad completed an undefeated season by winning the 3A state championship with a 17-13 triumph over Kennewick High on Dec. 4 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.
Wolverines William Wang scored two touchdowns on runs of 2 yards and 64 yards and Wiley Bryant knocked in a 21-yard field goal and two PATs.
After a scoreless first quarter, top-ranked Bellevue (14-0) bolted out to a 10-0 lead over sixth-ranked Kennewick (12-2) with Wang’s 2-yarder and Bryant’s field goal with 2:43 left in the second quarter. Kennewick closed the gap to 10-7 on a Myles Mayovsky 2-yard scoring run and Zaydel Capetillo PAT with 44 seconds remaining in the first half.
Wang increased Bellevue’s lead to 17-7 with his mammoth run with four minutes remaining in the third quarter. Kennewick answered about two minutes later with a Mayovsky 67-yard scoring reception from Dayton Davis; the two-point pass failed.
