Sunny, Pleasant Weekend & More Rain Ahead: Puget Sound Forecast

SEATTLE — With the last of the lingering showers out of the picture, Puget Sound is poised for a pleasant, spring-like weekend, with mild weather and clearing skies on tap through at least Sunday.

“The weather will be dry through the weekend and into Monday,” the National Weather Service wrote Friday. “There will be northerly flow aloft and the air mass will warm a little, but high temps probably won’t get above the mid 50s and lows will mainly be in the 30s — with some frost possible around in the areas that do manage clear skies at night.”

Around Seattle, forecasters see cloud cover decreasing Saturday and conditions becoming gradually sunny with a slight breeze. Sunday should be mostly sunny throughout the day, with afternoon temperatures gaining a few degrees. Monday should keep some sunshine around, and even get a little warmer before rain showers return Tuesday.

Forecasters said the models Friday still offered differing projections for next week’s weather, with the possibility of cooler temperatures mid-week with some mountain snow. So far, the rain ahead does not appear to be significant, unlike the last round of wet weather.

This week, climatologists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also released their outlook for the rest of March, placing greater chances on wetter and cooler conditions winning out for the month in Washington.

“The March 2022 temperatures outlook has a clear northwest/southeast divide with the western and north-central U.S. favored to be cooler than average and the eastern/south-central U.S. favored for above-average warmth,” NOAA wrote. “Out West, odds slightly favor below-average temperatures for the month, with the only area with odds greater than 50% in northern Montana.”

As Puget Sound draws nearer to daylight saving time and the spring equinox, Seattle is adding roughly 3 minutes and 27 seconds of daylight per day. The first 6 p.m. sunset of the year arrives Saturday. The first sunset after 7 p.m. will not be far behind, arriving as we “spring forward” on March 13.

Here is the five-day weather outlook for the Seattle area:

  • Saturday: 48°/35° (Becoming sunny)
  • Sunday: 51°/36° (Mostly sunny)
  • Monday: 53°/41° (Partly sunny)
  • Tuesday: 48°/39° (Rain likely)
  • Wednesday: 46°/35° (Chance of rain)
