SEATTLE — After a mostly sunny and rather pleasant Friday, the weekend ahead promises to keep the dry streak alive before rain showers return early next week, according to the latest forecasts.

Like Friday, Saturday is forecast to start out with some fog before it burns off around mid-morning. While neither day in the weekend looks quite as sunny as Friday, conditions should stay dry and calm for most, apart from a few light showers possible over the Olympic Peninsula and near the northern border.

Afternoon highs on both days should land in the high 40s, with overnight temperatures just a few degrees lower.

Showers will trickle back into the forecast for most starting Monday evening and lasting through Tuesday, with a few chances for rain continuing for most of next week. However, the National Weather Service said the upcoming systems will be a far cry from recent storms, trending on the lighter side for both the lowlands and the mountains.

“Total precip for all of next week in places like Seattle could be less than we received in a single day earlier this week,” forecasters wrote Friday. “That will be quite a shift from the very active pattern we’ve seen over the past few weeks.”

The well-earned relief could last through the rest of the month, and the latest projections from the Climate Prediction Center suggest above-average temperatures could stay in place into early February. As for the rain, drier-than-normal conditions are expected to linger until late in the month, before shifting back to a wetter pattern to kick off February.
