Seahawks Gained $1B In Value Since Last Year: Forbes

SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks are worth 29 percent more than last year and are now the 14th-most valuable franchise in the National Football League, according to new rankings from Forbes. The publication’s 2022 NFL Team Values report valued the Seahawks at $4.5 billion this month, up from $3.5 billion in 2021 and $3.1 billion in 2020.

Paul Allen purchased the team in 1997 for $194 million. Since his death in 2018, the Seahawks have been run by the Paul G. Allen trust, chaired by Allen’s sister Jody, who earlier this summer shot down rumors of a potential sale.

Highlighting “skyrocketing revenue and mouth-watering profitability,” Forbes said the average NFL team this year is worth $4.47 billion, soaring 28 percent since last year, which is in line with the Seahawks’ growth. Seattle is also among the league’s most valuable franchises, and worth more than teams like the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers.

Far ahead of the pack is the Dallas Cowboys, valued at $8 billion in 2022, followed by the New England Patriots at $6.4 billion and Los Angeles Rams at $6.2 billion.

According to Forbes, the Seahawks pulled in $518 million in revenue with an operating income of $123 million in 2021 and $75 million in gate receipts. Player expenses, including benefits and bonuses, totaled $244 million.
