Energy Smart Eastside campaign brings savings on heating and cooling

Discounts, rebates available for heat pump installation

Starting this summer, residents of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island and Redmond can learn about and buy discounted heat pump systems through Energy Smart Eastside, a multi-city energy efficiency program. Heat pumps are highly efficient heating and cooling systems that use less energy than traditional electric heating systems and can result in lower utility bills.

The Energy Smart Eastside campaign reduces the regular price of a heat pump, simplifies installation and provides guidance on utility incentives and low-interest financing. By working directly with heat pump manufacturers, local distributors and expert installers to streamline the process, Energy Smart Eastside ensures participants receive high-quality work and excellent customer service.

Five free, one-hour online workshops, open to all Eastside residents and property owners, are scheduled from July 26 to Sept. 27. Participants will learn about heat pump technology, utility incentives and financing opportunities, and can ask questions of program experts. After attending a workshop, participants are eligible for at least $500 off installation, in addition to unique incentives offered by partner cities.

Puget Sound Energy customers may also qualify for additional cash incentives, if upgrading from another electric heat source.

“Bellevue believes in sustainability and the importance of partnerships, both key elements of this program that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our communities through energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions,” said Bellevue Mayor Lynne Robinson.

The program is open to all Bellevue residents and those at certain income levels can take advantage of generous incentives and financing options for no-cost installations.
