Highline Tops Bellevue at Buzzer

Bellevue College men’s basketball’s six game win streak came to an end tonight in heartbreaking fashion as the visiting Highline Thunderbirds defeated the Bulldogs 90-88 on a last second shot. Bellevue tried to pull off second half heroics as they did last night against Walla Walla but could not make up enough ground in game that was a tight battle down the stretch. With the score tied at 86 with 39 seconds to go, the teams traded layups as Bellevue’s Bishop Tosi re-tied the game at 88 with 10 seconds remaining. In the games final possession, Highline wound down the clock before Kenny Curtis nailed the game winner as time expired.

At one point, Bellevue had a 77-74 lead at the 6:54 mark, but Highline quickly recovered and made the Bulldogs play catch up for the remainder of the second half. In the first half, Bellevue fell victim to Highline’s perimeter attack, as the T-Birds drained 8-of-14 from the three point line to push Highline to a safe halftime lead.

Tosi had his second consecutive hot night leading BC with 19 points on 5-for-9 shooting and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. He pulled down seven rebounds. John Hart came off the bench and tossed in 16 points and had a team-high nine rebounds as well.

Bellevue is now 7-2 and will travel to Coos Bay, OR for the SW Oregon Crossover this Thursday-Saturday December 16-18. The ‘dogs open up action on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. vs. Centralia.
