Weekend Road Work: SR 520 Bridge Closure, ‘Revive I-5’ Continues

SEATTLE — Weekend construction work will keep crews busy through the weekend around the Seattle area, with another weekend of “Revive I-5” expansion joint work scheduled in Seattle and a full closure of State Route 520 over Lake Washington, .

The Washington State Department of Transportation will keep SR 520 closed in both directions between Seattle and Bellevue from late Friday to early Monday, allowing contractors to install more than two dozen girders for the new Montlake lid.

The latest round of work is part of WSDOT’s broader, $455 million SR 520 Montlake Project, which includes a three-acre, landscaped “lid” over the freeway to add new green space and better serve pedestrians and cyclists. This summer, contractors are focused on extending the lid eastward, and by the end of the year they are scheduled to begin working west. The weekend work will see crews placing more than two dozen girders, filling out more of the structure’s ” backbone.”

11 p.m. Friday – 5 a.m. Monday

  • What’s closed:
    • Eastbound SR 520 between I-5 in Seattle and 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill
    • Westbound SR 520 between 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill and I-5 in Seattle
    • All associated SR 520 on- and off-ramps.

For drivers heading through Seattle, southbound lane reductions will again be in place along Interstate 5, so contractors can replace more aging expansion joints on the freeway. Similar weekend work is scheduled nearly every weekend through the end of summer.
