On April 5 the Washington state Employment Security Department announced a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN), and relayed that 147 Walmart employees will be permanently laid off starting on July 15.
Following a thorough review process based on historic and current financial performance, Walmart has decided to close the 12620 Southeast 41st Place location. The store will be closed to the public by April 22, and Walmart will continue to be supportive of store leadership and associates at the Bellevue location.
Lauren Willis, Communications Director for Walmart in the Western U.S. explained how all associates will be eligible for a transfer to a different Walmart location.
“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Bellevue location on 41st Pl,” said Willis. “We look forward to serving them at our other stores in the surrounding communities and on Walmart.com.”
Staff from ESD’s Worksource center and a local rapid response team will perform outreach to the employees to ease the transition.
The WARN Act requires that companies with 100 or more employees must notify affected workers 60 days prior to closures or layoffs.
